Courageous Quest a Success

01 Dec 2009

Nearly one year ago Mark Demontis, one of Canada’s youngest motivational speakers, knocked on Reebok Hockey’s door requesting a sponsorship for the biggest challenge of his life. Mark was diagnosed with a rare condition known as Leber's Optic Neuropathy, an optic disease which left him legally blind. His challenge was to travel from Toronto to Vancouver in time for the via inline skates to raise money and awareness to grow the game of hockey for the visually impaired. With no hesitation Reebok Hockey jumped on board the exciting endeavor and provided all the equipment for Mark and his crew to meet their challenge.

Demontis strapped his 9K inline skates beginning his Quest for the West in June 2009. Some 5,000 kilometers – and four sets of wheels – later, he reached his Vancouver finish line on Oct. 16 after pushing a daily average of 70 kilometers through rain and shine.

An amazing outcome of $70,000 was raised as well as a strong awareness for his cause throughout the 66 Canadian cities traversed on their journey.

Reebok Hockey would like to salute the courageous accomplishment of Mark DeMontis and his team.
