18-year-old Swedish defenseman to take the ice in head-to-toe Reebok equipment, footwear and apparel
MONTREAL - June 25, 2009 - Reebok Hockey is pleased to announce it has signed a multi-year agreement with National Hockey League top prospect, Victor Hedman. The Swedish hockey phenom joins an impressive list of NHL stars, including Sidney Crosby, Pavel Datsyuk, Roberto Luongo and Marc-André Fleury, as members of the current Reebok Hockey team.
Eligible for the 2009 NHL Entry Draft in Montreal this weekend, Hedman is considered a prime candidate to be picked among the first three overall.
"Victor Hedman is an extremely promising player who will be a great addition to the Reebok Hockey family," said Len Rhodes, General Manager of Reebok-CCM Hockey. "He is incredibly talented and has proven more than once that he has what it takes to become a hockey star. A top new-generation player, he is perfect to represent the Reebok brand, both in North America as well as in Europe."
This partnership will include Hedman as a part of Reebok's global marketing strategy, both on and off the ice. He will play and train in head-to-toe Reebok Hockey apparel, footwear and equipment, and will not only have a signature Reebok 8.0.8 O-Stick pattern, but will also have a footwear line to be sold in Sweden. Hedman is set to be the face of the 8.0.8 marketing campaign, representing a new generation of players who have made this their stick of choice.
"I am humbled to be included in such an impressive roster of great athletes," Hedman said. "The Reebok brand has an incredible reputation in the hockey world and I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to partner with such a creative and innovative company."
The 2008-09 Swedish Elite League Rookie of the Year, Hedman turned pro at just 16 years old. He led his Modo team last season with a plus-21 rating, adding seven goals and 21 points in 43 games while playing 20 minutes a game on the team's top pairing. Known for his size and remarkable skating ability, he was ranked first overall in the International Scouting Services' preliminary rankings at the beginning of the 2008–09 season. Following his performance at the 2009 World Junior Championships, Hedman was listed atop the rankings of European skaters by NHL Central Scouting.
