PRINCETON, N.J. – Johnstown’s Ryan Nie is the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Oct. 22-28.
The 6-foot-1 and 165-pound netminder was 2-0-0 with a 1.88 goals-against average and a .944 save percentage in two starts to help the Chiefs go 3-1-0 and move into a tie for the lead in the North Division.
After stopping 32 of 35 shots in a 4-3 in overtime win against South Division leader South Carolina on Oct. 24, the Nanticoke, Ontario native had 36 saves in regulation and overtime, including stopping the last 17 shots, and stopped three of four shooters in the shootout for a 2-1 win at Elmira, the first loss of the season for the Jackals.
The 22 year old is tied for third in the ECHL with three wins while he is sixth in the league with a .942 save percentage and a 1.92 goals-against average.
Nie played last season for Kalamazoo in the United Hockey League earning All-Rookie honors after going 20-8-4 with seven shutouts, a league record goals-against average of 2.02 and a .929 save percentage in 35 games.
Prior to turning professional, Nie played three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League where he was 51-54-15 with five shutouts, a 2.93 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage in 130 games with Plymouth, Toronto St. Michael’s and Sarnia.
Runners Up: Davis Parley, South Carolina (2-0-1, 2.30 GAA, .936 save pct.) and Jonathan Quick, Reading (2-2-0, 3.00 GAA and .927 save pct.).
